funktion "search" file for keyword does'nt work? 5 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi, Tom from Germany, sorry for my worst english...

I want to use Owl as a document mamgement system, storing files in some folders.
Installation was easy. Create some folders and move some files inot the folders was easy too.

I have a problem with the search-function. Try to search a keyword inside a file does'nt find.

Creating a test, I create a very simple MS-Word-file named test.doc and stored into folder. The file test.doc has only three words inside: "Harley Davidson Motorcycle". I can see the file in the folder, I can open the file and read the words - all seams to be ok.

But when I try to search inside files by keyword "Harley" (in german the function is called "Suchen" in combination with "in Datei suchen"), Owl does'nt find the file. Then I try some more tests with other files, .doc .xls .pdf - same result. Owl search-funktion does'nt find any words inside the files.

What's wrong?

Best regards Tom

Hi,

First of All your version of Owl is A BIT out of date.

Indexing takes place when a file is uploaded, and depends on external tools to be installed and pointed to in the admin section.

DOC = antiword
PDF = pdftotext

Hi B0zz,

thanks for advice.

I'm only user at the moment. I've got an order to create an ample document archive.

The program was installed by other two years ago at ours Server. I'll inform the administrator to install newest version.

Is it possible to update the program without losing data, I believe so?

Presently I'll install Owl at my own Computer to check out.
I've found antiword and pdftotext in downloaded zip files.
Will they be installed automaticaly when I install Owl?

Keep in touch.

Tom

Yes you can upgrade without loosing any of your existing data.

No owl doesn't install any of the external tools, they have to be installed separately.
